Story of my journey with photography

journey with photography

Photography & I,

Those were the days where roll cameras were counting their last days and point and shoot cameras had a rule over everywhere. Digi cams were a cup of tea of riches’ only. Mobile cameras with 2mp cameras also had a lead. The curiosity in me towards photography was built only when we friends had a picnic to Savanadurga which is about 65 km away from Bangalore.

We had passed out PUC and were pursuing graduation with B.com socialization. Fresh minds, new to degree college environment, that’s when we planned to go for a picnic. One of our friends had a Nokia 6600 which was borrowed by his brother, The pictures were taken in all possible ways while trekking. The actual excitement was when Ranga made a slide show of pictures with a background music which is my choice… Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai, I have repeatedly played the CD at least thrice a day and have shown it to all family members and neighbours.

I still remember the days when I was amused to see the pen drive and card readers in Ranga’s hand and also had asked what is it and whats the use of it. After reaching back home had tried to recollect name (pen drive). Technologies were in a nascent stage in India at least in my world during early 2005. Forgot to mention you one thing, The first ever computer I saw in my life is when I was in summer vacation with my cousins and had been to one of my cousins friend’s house who was filthy rich, he had a CRT monitor, I remember playing Game Prince, he had allowed me just to touch arrow keys, LOL…

Next story of my journey with photography is when we friends, the same group who had been to Savanadurga, planned to go for a trip to Mysore as our Tech guru Ranga already had an advanced Nokia 5720 with a 2mp camera with 1GB memory card. When our eyebrows were raising listening that one has 512mb memory card just imagine what would have been our expression when Ranga bought mobile with 1GB card? The Mysore trip was most cherishable one we were able to cover most of the places around Mysore. Like Srirangapatna, Balmuri, Chamundi hills, Palace, Museum etc. This time I had a complete take over on clicking photos with camera mobile especially when we were boating in Karanji Kere I had captured countless pics of birds and nature around and also pics of our friends with the mobile.

The 3rd trip which we had in 2008 from our college is best amongst all as it was for one 5days covering Banavasi, Shirsi, Jog, Murdeshwara & Yana. I said it best do you know why? Our tech guru Ranga had already bought a 16mp Olympus digital camera which is a cost of 16k. We were struggling to manage with 160Rs for our monthly expenses but he had the camera with his pocket money savings. There is no count on photos we had clicked with it and there are no poses left for us being posed. Still, see those files in my system and the hard copy of 6*4 images in my album. our funny faces with no single hair below nose and neck, LOL…

After that we did had numerous trips, picnics, functions, and parties using the camera. I remember hearing somewhere your hobby leads to your profession, Realized when Ranga decided to quit his job from JP after finishing his MBA and determined to set up a studio. This time he bought a DSLR worth 80k, Nikon D7000. The terms Aperture, ISO, and Shutter speed were very new to my dictionary and were very had to remember. The feel of lifting a 5kg dumble in hand when I held the camera in hand. After I got my first smartphone clicking photos became a routine, 8GB memory card of HTC use to run out of me more once in a week at least, Almost all photo editing apps on Android were downloaded from android market. They say Practice makes man perfect, That must be one thing I use to say myself. It used to take minimum 10 clicks just to click one best pic. I would continue my photography journey on my next write up.. catch you again..
