How I got my first wedding photography client?

Well, its quite interesting question and this is making me recall wonderful memories of my photography journey. It was an unexpected turn for me towards wedding photography. I never imagined that just a time pass hobby could drive to build my career.

Like it happens with most of the amateur photographers, social media like Facebook, Flicker, and Instagram helped me to reach more and more people through regular uploads of my best clicks.

To be frank, The soothing words from people I meet around about the photos I upload, the inquisitive questions they ask about photography cameras and the likes, comments from my friends on Facebook propelled me to click more and more pictures, which indeed helped me to sharpen my photography skills.  The camera became a companion of me everywhere I go, People started recognizing me as a photographer.

Actually, the moment which made me feel nervous literally was when one of my colleague from Calcutta one who follows all my posts approached me and said Shiv you are going to click photos on my brother’s wedding which is going to happen in Delhi. I was stunned for a moment and it was an unexpected question for me, I had no clue as to how to react.

Immediately I suggested him to contact my photography guru Ranga, As Ranga had already quit his highly paid job in JP Morgan. And had set up RNG photo store as his venture. But as my colleague who had already liked my photography and who had foreseen the potential photographer in me was obstinate about me personally clicking the photos.

He also had booked my air tickets to and fro to Delhi. I had no other go than attending the wedding,  I just had a week of time to prepare myself for wedding photography. There were numerous questions in my mind and the nervousness but couldn’t show it to anyone as I had a label as a photographer.

I started researching on wedding photography, referred few sites and pages, Of course, Ranga was pestered with hundreds of questions. Now the question is which camera to be taken for the shoot? After complete research, it was decided to hire Canon 5D Mark III camera with 50mm and 24-70mm kit lence for the shoot. That was the first experience for me to hold such an advanced camera in hand, As I was used to handling a basic DSLR it took some time for me to understand 5D.

The day approached, I still remember that was the month of January and it was winter Delhi had a temperature in single digit but still I was soaked with sweat throughout the event while clicking photos. Fortunately, I could capture some beautiful memories of the event. The photos are still one of best clicks in my gallery J

In fact, it was my first paid assignment which introduced me to wedding photography world.
