Does Your Business Reflect Who You Are?
Does your business reflect who you are? Are you being authentic in your business or are you
trying to be something you are not.
My business reflects the sum total of who I really am,it reflects my life experiences, my
foundational beliefs and everything else that goes into making me different than anyone else on
earth!
Because I’m unique, it stands to reason that my business will also be a reflection of that
uniqueness.
Because of our unique experiences, we each see in a distinctly different perspective, or through
a different frame. What “frame” does your customer see through? Your customer base is just
as diversified because of their perspective as well.
By utilizing your individual style, the creativity in your business will undoubtedly reflect who you
are. Conversely, if you are not being creative in or with your business, is it because you are
working too hard to be something that doesn’t fit you? By being totally authenticin using your
own individual style in your business it’s conceivable that you would attract customers differently
as well.
Perhaps you sell the exact same product or service as your competition, but because of the way
you package your business, or brand your business, you will draw a different clientele than your
competitor.
My business reflects the many years of experience that come from owning a pest control service
business for over twenty years. My current business also reflects the marketing company I
owned years ago, as well as the years before that where my family owned small town grocery
stores. Each of these experiences bring a different synergy to my business that is unique and
makes my business authentic.
Dictionary.com gives this definition of synergy, “the interaction of elements that when combined
produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions, etc.;
synergism.”
Because of these vantage points, my business reflects who I am today, the choices I made to
get there and my big why….why did I choose the path that I did. The same is true for you.
If you are trying to make your business be something that you are not….you are working way
too hard! When you lack authenticity, you sell yourself short, you sell your ideas, your dreams
and your passions short.
Are you living with someone else’s idea of what your business is supposed to be? Are you
working too hard to develop a “brand” that doesn’t fit you? Have you allowed the economy, or
your local business planner or an accountant to determine who you are supposed to be in
business?
Consider, just for a moment, how you would change your business, if you could, to be more in
balance with who you are. What would need to be re-fashioned, what new plan would be
developed and how would you go about it.
If you made some changes in your business to be more congruent with who you are, would it
spark a new passion or a new product/service?
As humans, we tend to look for the more comfortable easy way inside our journey….but what if
making changes could bring a new level of passion to your business, would you do it? The
changes you might need to make would not be easy at first, but then nothing worth doing ever
is. But once you have transformed your business to be a more authentic reflection of you, then
just perhaps, it would actually run better.
Consider a train….a vehicle for transport. Without a track to run on, it’s a train that doesn’t
function as intended. How’s your train today? Is it on the right track? Does your business
reflect who you are…it is authentic?
