Can you get strep throat without tonsils?

Strep throat also called pharyngitis streptococcal disease which infects commonly and contagious in the throat (including the throat, base of the tongue, tonsils and soft palate). Strep throat spread quickly from one person to another by contact with each other or in connection with the bacteria. The disease is most common in the late winter and early spring. If you are worry can you get strep throat without tonsils, you can follow these simple steps to preventing infection and disease understanding to know how to avoid.

Avoid bacteria

Avoid contact

The best way to prevent strep throat infection is to avoid contact with sick people, i.e., not to touch or stay with the patient in a confined space. Also, do not touch things that person has moved or exposed. Those materials can carry bacteria and support you from infection.Keep distance to the patient within the first 48 hours of antibiotics. After 48 hours, you can be exposed to normal because the disease will be no longer able to spread.

You should stay at home, especially in the early days still contagious. If children or family members are sick, you should stay home until they cannot spread the disease to others (the patient was afebrile or antibiotics for at least 24 hours). You should not go out to avoid inadvertently spread the virus to others.

Do not allow children to go to school if their classmates get strep throat.

Hygiene of contaminated objects

Clean up the objects have contact with strep throat. Pathogenic bacteria easily spread and live long, so all objects touching the patient has bacterial infection risk for other hosts. To prevent bacterial spread, you should wash all items that the sick person touches, including clothing, bedding, dishes (especially drinking glasses), straws, silverware and any things that could risk exposure due to bacterial infection.

Boil items in boiling water and bleach to kill bacteria. New appliances should be replaced if unable to apply this method.

For items cannot bring detergents, such as doorknobs and kitchen counters, you can use a rag soaked in bleach or pieces antibacterial spray to remove bacteria.

Avoid sharing

Do not share utensils for patients. No sharing glasses or eating infected disk with streptococcal pharyngitis.

Also, do not share items like soft napkins, towels, or soft bedding toys (such as stuffed animals).

Hand-washing

Wash your hands often, especially when sharing with patients is a how-to prevent the spread of streptococcal pharyngitis. The disease is very contagious, so we are frequently touching our face, nose, and mouth. Wash frequently hands with the warm water of about 15-30 seconds. Appropriate use soap and wash all positions on the hands, including between the fingers and wrist.

Wash your hands too long or too slowly may increase the risk of spreading infection because the skin protects wounded hand at the micro level, causing bacteria to enter the body. Therefore, you should wash your hands for 15-30 seconds to avoid hurting the skin necessary.

If you accidentally come into contact with the patient, you should avoid touching their mouth or nose up and should wash your hands immediately. You can use alcohol-based hand sanitizer in the absence of available water and soap.

Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing

United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using a tissue to cover your mouth and nose instead of by hand. If tissues are not available, you should cough or sneeze into your elbow instead of your hands. It helps prevent people with pharyngitis streptococcal pathogens spread by touching objects.

Improve immune system

Rest

The body needs to be out of action to combat infectious diseases. You should rest but do not get to sleep deprivation itself. Get enough sleep every night will help you stay healthy.

Adhere to a balance dietary

Additional foods are rich in vitamins and minerals that help boost the immune system. Consume a diet valuable in vegetables and fresh fruits, complex carbohydrate and lean protein. If you are not sick, this diet will help you stay healthy. If you are sick, diet adequate nutrition will help you quickly recover.

Adding vitamin C and D

It should incorporate more foods rich in vitamin C and D to the diet. Although there are no studies to suggest that this vitamin prevents strep throat, they will help to boost immune function, thereby improving the immune system to help to fight bacteria in the body.

When the immune system is healthy, if exposed to bacteria streptococcal pharyngitis, the body will have enough antibodies to fight the bacteria effectively and prevent bacterial infections.

Even when the immune system strengthened, you also should not be exposed to bacteria and should still apply the precautionary approach.

Food sources rich in vitamin C include citrus fruits, peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes. There is also a kiwi, broccoli, strawberries, Brussels sprouts, and cantaloupe. Many drinks also fortified with vitamin C.

Fish fat, such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel are rich in vitamin D. Milk, and juice enhancement supplement also enhances vitamin D. Besides, you can stimulate the body to synthesize vitamin D by exposure to the sun.

Zinc supplement

Zinc is a necessary factor for the cytoplasms in the immune system. To build up your immune system, you need an additional zinc per day. Zinc provides many essential nutrients for cell function in the immune system. Zinc-rich foods include seafood, lean red meat, poultry, beans and fortified cereals. Additionally, you can daily drink dietary zinc supplement.

Supplement too much zinc can hinder the immune system. You should supplement only 15-25 mg zinc every day.

Vitamin A supplement

Supplementation of vitamin A promotes the production of some cells in the body to help strengthen the immune system. Also, vitamin A helps fight infection. If your body lacks vitamin A, it may increase the risk of diseases such as strep throat. Eat more foods rich in vitamin A such as sweet potatoes, spinach, carrots, pumpkin, beef liver, cantaloupe, mango, black-eyed peas, broccoli, and peppers.

Understand strep throat thoroughly

Identify methods of spreading disease

Prevention is a necessary step because strep throat is very contagious. The virus is spread from one person to another through contact with contaminated secretions, from shaking hands with people who have not washed your hands until intimate contact such as kissing. The cause is usually due to patients’ hands wiping the nose or mouth, then touch the other person/animals. Bacteria can survive in the host a few days and on a dry surface to 6 months.

Get to know about the incubation period

The incubation period is 1-3 days. I.e., you cannot get tired or did not know that your illness and accidental contact with others.

If not treated with antibiotics, patients can spread the disease while carrying the virus, i.e., 7-10 days, and one week later. If treatment with antibiotics, patients can spread the disease in about 24 hours after initiation of therapy.

Recognize symptoms. Common symptoms of strep throat are a sore throat intense, painful swallowing and fever over 38 degrees. Also, you may have swollen throat or a headache. Abdominal pain and vomiting may occur in young children.

If you observe the throat, you will see red tonsils swollen, with pus or secretions block great white on the tonsils.

Sometimes, strep throat can lead to scarlet fever, infection with symptoms like a sore throat streptococcal associated rash can appear grainy at any location on the body. The rash does not itch. Before the eruption, the person may have abdominal pain or vomiting, especially in children.

Sometimes, tonsils swollen and sore can form an abscess near the tonsils and need surgical drainage. You can have surgical drainage done at the doctor’s clinic, or doctor can decide whether treatment with powerful antibiotics.

You should receive treatment if appeared long white pus on the tonsils bag and fever. We can identify this symptom with the naked eye.

If not out after 2-3 days of fever and sore throat violently, you should see a doctor to be tested for strep throat.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is usually determined clinically identifiable and you can also self-diagnosis based on the characteristic white pus pockets on the tonsils. In recent years, tests streptococcal pharyngitis quickly helped experts can clinically diagnose at the clinic. However, based on the fever, pus pockets and sore throat violently at people suspected disease that we could diagnose accurately.

There are many other tests but usually not necessary.

Young children are usually tested by rapid antigen test, which tests help detect antigens (substances generate an immune response in the body) in the throat within minutes. Because young children susceptible to complications of streptococcal pharyngitis should the doctor may use this test to diagnose before. If you cannot conclude, the doctor will conduct implant samples, and tests will take several days.

Treatment

The doctors usually treat strep throat with antibiotics. Your doctor will diagnose and prescribe antibiotics penicillin group, along with the most popular antibiotic amoxicillin. Or doctor will prescribe another antimicrobial if you’re allergic to penicillin or amoxicillin. You should take medicines as your doctor’s direction.

  • Typically, you will feel better within 48 hours. If not, ask for further treatment because you probably already infected with drug-resistant strains of streptococcal infection or onset of the abscess.
  • Always drink all antibiotics prescribed by your doctor, even if feeling better. Otherwise, the remaining bacteria will become more powerful antibiotic the bacteria have been destroyed and will be resistance. Resistant bacteria will be challenging to treat and cure.

Consult your doctor if suffering from strep throat often. If you frequently get strep throat or strep throat too heavy and difficult to treat, you should talk with your doctor. The doctor may ask you to see an ear-nose-throat doctor to discuss the tonsillectomy. Although not wholly prevent strep throat recurrence this can be helpful, especially in children.
